| Question | What is WebObjects? |
|---|---|
| Answer |
WebObjects is a set of frameworks for developing Java applications, usually for the web. Initially created by NeXT, Apple took control of WebObjects when they purchased NeXT in 1996. The "crown jewel" of WebObjects is the Enterprise Objects Framework (EOF), a robust object-relational mapping framework. It is arguable that to a large extent, Apple's commercial success is tied directly to their use of WO. The framework provides an economical means to achieve the truly enterprise level applications they require, for example, the iTunes Music Store. |
