Overview of Business: Maharlika Services Ltd. provides money sending services from Canada to the Philippines . By using Maharlika Services Ltd. the public is able to send money to an individual in the Philippines using any denomination of money (Canadian or US dollars, or pesos). Because transaction services are charged at a flat rate, this is a less expensive alternative than other 'money sending' services whose rates are a percentage of the amount sent.

Description of Problem: The current process was highly manual and paper intensive. Maharlika Services Ltd. wanted an automated process which allowed for the storage and use of client information and access to remittance information regardless of an employee's location.
GVC Role: Global Village Consulting Inc. was contracted to design, develop, and host the resulting application.
Project Description: The MRS application was designed for use by Maharlika Services Ltd. to aid the company in the speeding up processing time and tracking of remittance status. Because the developed application is web-based employees of the Vancouver and Philippines locations can access the remittance information from any computer connected to the internet. Various permissions are granted to users of the system enabling the control of features and actions to specific user groups. MRS enables information to be stored regarding a client and any remittances they make. Thus, return clients will have a shorter processing time as only the details of a new remittance need be entered. The MRS application also enables the generation of various reports based on the desired criteria entered. Information regarding an entered remittance is now immediately available and status updated.

Description of Solution: The resulting application was developed using the DirectToWeb tool of WebObjects 5.1. Some customization of pages was necessary to give the client all the required functionality. A FrontBase database was used as the backend database. Both the application and the database are deployed on a Mac X-Server using an Apache webserver.
