GVC Role: GVC provided onsite, subcontracted WebObjects/OpenStep development services to the client.

Project Description: The Proton (Project Tracking Online) management information system was developed to help achieve Merrill Lynch's goal of running technology development as if it were a separate, distinct business unit. Proton combined resource and project information in a clear and concise format to facilitate planning, execution, tracking, and control of technology projects. The system was accessible via the company's Intranet as a web application, was constructed using WebObjects, and amalgamated information from many corporate data sources.
|
|
Description of Solution: Initially, our involvement was to develop a subsystem of Proton. The subsystem automatically imported data on a scheduled basis from Microsoft Project plans stored in Documentum (a document management database) for hundreds of projects into the main Proton system.
This subsystem was implemented using the WebObjects/OpenStep toolset and the ActiveX (OLE automation) framework. After completion of this subsystem, our responsibilities expanded to include construction of new features of the core Proton system -- using WebObjects -- including the extensive, dynamic
HTML-based drill-down reporting subsystem and PDF-based report generation subsystem which was
implemented using ReportMill.
