Description of Problem: In order to reduce costs during a time of budgetary constraints and to provide the university campus with the website creation and management tool of GVC.SiteMaker, the univeristy determined that outsourcing the hosting would enable them to provide this service in a more economical manner.

Project Description:
|
|
Description of Solution: The application and FrontBase database are hosted on a single Sun server running Solaris 8, and using an Apache webserver. However, due to the necessity of providing a fully redundant application service, all the disks are mirrored on a second server automatically set to 'take over' in the event of a server failure.
Because GVC.SiteMaker is hosted by GVC and the sheer size of the University of Michigan end user group, a Tier III support and maintenance agreement was needed.

Project Deliverables:
- initial setup of server to host the GVC.SiteMaker application and FrontBase database
- setup and maintenance of mirror server
- setup on a support ticket tracking system
- configuration of GVC.SiteMaker to fit University of Michigan specifications
- integration of Kerberos user authentication system, currently used by the university
- deployment of GVC.SiteMaker as UM.SiteMaker
- ongoing application and server support, maintenance, and upgrades
