Global Village Consulting Inc. Announces the Release of GVC.SiteMaker Version 3.1. Vancouver, BC, January 1, 2004 -- Global Village Consulting announces the release of GVC.SiteMaker Version 3.1. GVC.SiteMaker is a global website creation and management application designed for K-12 and higher education. Created by university faculty, GVC.SiteMaker enables non-technical individual website publishers, such as faculty, students and staff to quickly and easily publish fully functional websites. GVC.SiteMaker improves communication within universities, colleges and schools between faculty, students, staff and the general public. Already a very powerful and flexible solution, the new release of GVC.SiteMaker has added great features to the website database and administrative functions. The new version of GVC.SiteMaker built on the DataBase features developed in the previous version by adding 'email notification'. Now, website owners can set up the web page displaying database records to send email notification to an individual or group of users if a record is added and/or edited. Notification is set up to send notification to a user group(s) such as an Access Group, entered individual email addresses, or to use the value of a selected field. This new feature greatly simplifies and adds to the database table management set up for a website. In this manner, teachers can be notified when students submit homework assignments, conference organizers can easily stay abreast of attendee submissions or changes, and group project individuals are notified of project data changes, for example. Also in GVC.SiteMaker 3.1, the administrative functions have been improved. Workflow is now available to handle website requests. For large organizations, this is very useful as handling of requests is delegated but can be monitored to ensure timely resolution of requests and to ensure requests are not lost. Additional monitoring features have been added as administrative website actions are now logged. Again, this is very useful when responsibilities have been delegated to multiple individuals as a log of website creation, property changes, notes, etc. are recorded. Communication between users has also improved with GVC.SiteMaker 3.1. Administration users can now send email to select user groups throughout the system, select unit managers or website owners/co-owners, users requesting sites, etc. As well, site owners/co-owners can now send files to select access groups or individuals using GVC.SiteMaker or opt to use their computer's default email program. With GVC.SiteMaker 3.1 websites in other languages can be created as easily as English sites. Using Unicode UTF-8, site content can be developed using non-Roman characters by inputting the desired language characters just as you would for an English site. The incorporation of Unicode UTF-8 into GVC.SiteMaker makes it an invaluable and unique tool for developing websites of any language. Organizations using LDAP servers to develop and manage group memberships will be happy with the new support for this standard in GVC.SiteMaker v3.1. GVC.SiteMaker now allows organizations to incorporate both authenticated and unauthenticated LDAP groups. In this manner, organizational groups, whose membership already resides on an LDAP server, can easily be used as access groups for GVC.SiteMaker sites.
